How long does installation take?

Our highly experienced team will ensure that installation is quick and relatively hassle-free for you. Depending on the system, installation would take 4-8 weeks.

Where can a solar power system be installed?

The best place to install such a system would be in areas that receive direct sunlight such as the rooftop. However, these systems can be installed in any area such as the front elevation, vacant ground areas, or any other location that is relatively free of shading. Installing in shaded areas will significantly decrease the output of power.

What is the effect, if any, on electricity production by the system on less sunny / cloudy days?

Electricity generation through these systems depends on the intensity of light rather than on direct sunlight, electricity will be produced on such days too. The higher the intensity of light, the more is the flow of electricity and hence the system would generate a lot more power on bright sunny days. The experts at Start Solar will help you select the best panels / systems for your requirement, such that power production would be optimized even on less sunny / cloudy days.

What is the area required for a 1 kW rooftop Solar PV system?

This system typically requires about 12 sq. metres (130 square feet) of flat, shadow-free area (preferably facing the southern direction). Actual sizing, however, depends also on local factors of solar radiation and weather conditions and shape of the roof.

What are the subsidies and or capital support available from the Government?

Subsidies are available from a number of channels for setting up rooftop solar systems. The Central Government through the MNRE gives a 15% subsidy for systems up to 100KWP in size. This subsidy can be availed through the channel partners on the MNRE panel. For larger systems – 100KWP-500KWP subsidy is available through the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). (For more details, please visit http://www.seci.gov.in/content/). Subsidy is also available in a number of states and the percentage would depend on the policies governing the particular state.

What are the different types of installations?

For the rooftop solar systems, there are three types of installations: Grid Tied, Grid Interactive, and Off-grid.

Grid Tied: These send back excess power to the local utility grid and generate power for the consumption of the home / establishment. This system does not generate power during a power failure to ensure that power does not go back to the grid as it could electrocute the personnel working on repairing the grid.

Grid Interactive: This system uses a battery backup or a diesel powered generator to provide power even during power failure

Off-grid: Going by the name, this system is not connected to the grip but works with a battery backup or a diesel-powered generator. The difference in this system is the kind of inverter and the inclusion of batteries for it.

What is the estimated lifetime of a solar system?

Start Solar uses only the best in class manufacturers and their products. The standard lifespan of our solar systems is 25 years, however higher quality panels can last much long.

How much electricity can be generated by a solar rooftop installation of 1kwp?

A 1KWP solar rooftop system is able to produce 5 units of electricity per day – that is an average 1500 units of electricity per year. Given the tropical climate of our country and the resultant strong and constant sunlight, the power generation can be a lot more.
